miniature schnauzer puppy

I found some interesting yarn while I was in the UK last week – it’s actually the same yarn that wibit uses for a lot of her lovely designs. I decided to try it out with one of my AmiDogs patterns and see what happened…

It’s like magic, really. Any guesses which AmiDog this originally was? You’ve got at least a 1/9 chance of getting it right 😉 I kept the pattern exactly the same (except for hook size and colour changes) and assembled it a bit differently, so this dog is sitting down instead of standing. The fluffy yarn makes a huge difference to the dog’s appearance:

I thought I might end up with some sort of terrier, but once I’d trimmed the fluff around the beard area, my little dog was unquestionably a Miniature Schnauzer pup:

This experiment has given me some ideas for some longer-haired AmiDogs. I just need to find a suitable yarn that’s readily available in North America.

Dear June, I’m a crochet designer AND a Miniature Schnauzer rescuer! I happened onto this post and ADORE your little crocheted furkid! I have only designed one crocheted Miniature Schnauzer and sold that, but you have inspired me to make more! This is just precious. Congratulations on a wonderful job, and nice to meet a fellow crocheter and Schnauzer lover!!

HI! OMG! This is so cute! It would be so perfect for my cousin’s baby! Yould you sell me one if I paid you to make one for me? If not, could you tell me EXACTLY where you got everything so I can try making it myself? WOW This is amazing!

Molly, I’ve just posted instructions for how to modify the BOSTON TERRIER pattern (and nobody guessed that!) into the Miniature Schnauzer puppy.

    Hi June,
He’s such a gorgeous little thing!
I recently tried a new (for me) hairy yarn that was much easier to work with (knitting with size 4 needles) and thought I’d pass on the info. I LOVED this stuff! It’s Moda Dea Fur Sure. When brushed out, it feels like silk! :o) Here’s a wee peep I made with it: www.flickr.com/photos/knittycat/2484164034/
I just brushed him a little, but I’m sure you could get it to go even fuzzier. :o)

Ooh yes… you could import the yarn and sell kits. 😉
Too cute! You never cease to amaze me (even if I don’t comment that often)! Maybe someday I’ll be brave enough to tackle something like this. 😀

  7. Awww… To cute… So sweet… I want one…

  8. That is beautiful. I have a fluffy type yarn, I havent decided what I want to do with it yet. As for guessing, I will say the Corgie. Beautiful job!

Red Heart has some fuzzy yarn out that is like that and I am trying to make a schnauzer of my own out of it. I got it at Hobby Lobby in the good ol’ US of A. Is it a contest if we get it right? I think it is the beagle.

My guess is the husky. He is absolutely fabulous, I’m going to have to try this yarn.

June – this is so cute!!! Can’t wait to see the others you come up with!

Maybe you need to import that yarn and sell it to us. 🙂

Awww, thank you all for your kind comments *blushing*

Now, while I would love to maintain this new status as crocheting goddess 😉 I must confess something: the yarn (Jana: it’s Patons Spirit and it’s only available in the UK) is really not that difficult to work with. Remember my Fuzzy Yarn Tips? By working around the inside, all the fuzz stays on the outside and it’s not that hard to work with. Also, when I had finished crocheting, I brushed the finished piece with a pet slicker brush, which pulled out more fluff and disguised my stitches – it didn’t look like that while I was crocheting!

And by the way, all guesses so far have been WRONG (including the ones I received by e-mail)! You may have been mislead by the ears – I folded them down while I was assembling the schnauzer, so they don’t look the same as in the original AmiDogs pattern… I will reveal the truth soon if nobody guesses it 😀

Gorgeous! WHERE did you get the yarn?! If it’s possible, I want to see if my friend, Martin, can get me some of it when he goes home to the UK next month! Although, I’m with the other commenters, HOW DID YOU SEE THE STITCHES?!
I made one of your jonquils today! VERY pretty! I did it with cotton thread “yarn” and a smaller hook. Now that I have the hang of it, I want to make a bouquet! Thanks for your great pattern instructions, especially the pictures!

OMG. how do you crochet that? I am already having trouble crocheting the eye lash yarns. You are just AMAZING!

btw, the dog is really cute!

That is ridiculously cute. I can’t see how you could possibly crochet with that yarn – how do you see your stitches?!

I’m guessing it’s the Corgi pattern.

WOW! thats amazing. but i don’t think i am willing to work with that stuff. but it does not even look crocheted! great job once again

ps – i have no clue what dog it is its still to early for my brain to be working.

Dammit June, you’re always getting better! Are you still human or already proceeded to crocheting goddess?

Sooo cute! Amazing how the type of yarn can so dramatically alter the final effect, it really does look like fur.

I bet it’s your Jack Russel! Adorable. I think in the right color I could make it look like my Chihuahua/Cairn Terrier mix pup!

He is soo cute. I have Silkies and have been thinking about how to make some. Bit daunted about keeping track of stitches amongst all that fluff! Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with
