I followed the directions, and finished with a dog that looked exactly like the picture (except for the ears, mine aren't as tightly folded down, but she still looks cute)...I love that the hints in the directions and the pictures were a necessary part of the wonderful pattern. My only experience in crochet is with PJ patterns and I've had nothing but success with them.
