Not sure what else to call this though.<\/p>\n<p>Dave&#8217;s telescope is designed to be collapsible, so it doesn&#8217;t have a solid tube; it just has 3 poles connecting the top and bottom of the telescope.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He asked me to make\u00a0a removable fabric tube to keep light out of the telescope. It was complicated to design as the scope has bits sticking out \u00a0&#8211; I kept going back to the scope for &#8216;fittings&#8217; as I started each part.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud2.jpg\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I made this out of two layers of ripstop nylon, so that no light can get in.\u00a0The top stays up\u00a0with\u00a0elastic loops that pass over the top ring of the scope and fasten around buttons on the shroud. There are 2 slits (reinforced with\u00a0bias tape)\u00a0near the top for access to the eyepiece and filter wheel.\u00a0I left the side seams open at the bottom for the pole supports, and the shroud closes below the supports\u00a0with velcro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud3.jpg\" width=\"250\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <a  href=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud4.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"250\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud4.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The shroud can open out flat, and it\u00a0attaches around the body of the telescope using two zips; one zips up from the bottom of the telescope, and one zips down from the top, so there is room for the finder scope to move up and down vertically by partially unzipping one of the zips.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud5.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"250\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud5.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lots of work, but it looks pretty good, and, more importantly, it does what it&#8217;s supposed to do &#8211; keeps stray light out of the telescope.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/shroud6.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ugh, I hate the word shroud!
