{"id":14908,"date":"2015-04-26T15:04:51","date_gmt":"2015-04-26T19:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.planetjune.com\/blog\/?p=14908"},"modified":"2025-06-06T11:34:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T15:34:29","slug":"south-africa-wildlife-vi-the-magic-of-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.planetjune.com\/blog\/south-africa-wildlife-vi-the-magic-of-water\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa wildlife VI: the magic of water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a long time since I&#8217;ve been able to sit comfortably at my computer and edit wildlife photos, so I&#8217;m easing back into things with an update of some of the everyday (but still special!) wildlife in my own garden here in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;d like to show you the power of water for attracting and photographing wildlife. Olive thrushes, like most birds (except doves) have to raise their heads to swallow water, so it&#8217;s the perfect moment to snap a photo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14935\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/sa_images\/birdbath_hadeda.jpg\" alt=\"birdbath_hadeda\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.planetjune.com\/blog\/images\/sa_images\/birdbath_hadeda.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.planetjune.com\/blog\/images\/sa_images\/birdbath_hadeda-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><br \/>\n<em>And sometimes things get slightly ridiculous &#8211; this hadeda ibis is a) not a garden bird and b) far too large to bathe in my birdbath&#8230; but he didn&#8217;t care!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I also have a nectar (sugar water) feeder to attract sunbirds &#8211; (And much easier than trying to catch grasshoppers to feed to them&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>I had another happy discovery this weekend.
