Move the marker up each time you start a new round.<\/li>\n<li>Working with fuzzy (eyelash or novelty) yarn can be a challenge until you get the hang of it. <a href=\"\/fuzzy\">See my advice here<\/a>.\n<\/ul>\n<h2>You will need&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>H US\/5mm crochet hook<\/li>\n<li>Small quantity of worsted weight yarn in red<\/li>\n<li>Small quantity of fuzzy\/eyelash yarn in white<\/li>\n<li>Yarn needle to weave in ends<\/li>\n<li>Stitch marker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Size<\/h2>\n<p>Approx 3&#8243; (8cm) diameter. (Your gauge and yarn choice will affect the finished size slightly.)<\/p>\n<h2>Gauge<\/h2>\n<p>Gauge is unimportant for this pattern \u2013 use any hook size that gives you a fabric you like! If you want your hats to look slightly floppy, as pictured, <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> use the small hook you usually use for amigurumi. (I usually use an E US\/3.5mm hook, and I used an <strong>H US\/5mm hook<\/strong> for my hats.)<\/p>\n<h2>Special Stitch: 3-dc Cluster<\/h2>\n<p><em>A 3-dc cluster stitch is formed from 3 incomplete double crochet stitches joined together to make a rounded stitch that pops out of the surrounding fabric.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To make a cluster stitch:<br \/>\n*Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook.*<br \/>\nRepeat * two more times, working into the same stitch each time. Completing each repeat will leave one more loop on your hook; after the last repeat you should have 4 loops remaining on your hook.<br \/>\nYarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.\t \t <\/p>\n<h2>Hat Body<\/h2>\n<p><em>worked from the top down<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> You can stop crocheting and jump to the <strong>Trim<\/strong> instructions as soon as the hat reaches the diameter or length you&#8217;d like \u2013 try it on your amigurumi and see when it looks good!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With <strong>red yarn<\/strong>, make a <a href=\"\/blog\/magic-ring-for-amigurumi\/\">magic ring<\/a>, ch 1.<br \/>\nRnd 1: 4 sc in magic ring. (4 st)<br \/>\nRnd 2: (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) twice. (6 st)<br \/>\nRnd 3: sc in each st around. (6 st)<br \/>\nRnd 4: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) twice. (8 st)<br \/>\nRnd 5: sc in each st around. (8 st)<br \/>\nRnd 6: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 st) twice. (10 st)<br \/>\nRnd 7: (sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st) twice. (12 st)<br \/>\nRnd 8: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 st) twice. (14 st)<br \/>\nRnd 9: (sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 st) twice. (16 st)<br \/>\nRnd 10: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 st) twice. (18 st)<br \/>\nRnd 11: (sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 st) twice. (20 st)<br \/>\nRnd 12: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 st) twice. (22 st)<br \/>\nRnd 13: (sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 st) twice. (24 st)<br \/>\nRnd 14: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 11 st) twice. (26 st)<br \/>\nRnd 15: (sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 st) twice. (28 st)<br \/>\nJoin with sl st to next st, and fasten off.<\/p>\n<h2>Trim<\/h2>\n<p>With <strong>white eyelash yarn<\/strong>, make a slip knot on the hook. Hold the slip knot in place against your hook with your finger (below, left) so your first yarn over doesn&#8217;t unwind itself as you crochet the first stitch (below, right).<\/p>\n<p>Rnd 1: starting with any stitch around the edge of the hat, 3-dc cluster in each st around.<br \/>\nJoin with sl st to first st. Fasten off and weave in all yarn ends.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/tut_images\/santa_hat1.jpg\" alt=\"amigurumi santa hat crochet pattern by planetjune\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Bobble<\/h2>\n<p>With <strong>white eyelash yarn<\/strong>, ch 2.<br \/>\nRnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook. (6 st)<br \/>\nRnd 2: sc in back loop of each st around. (6 st)<br \/>\nMake sure the bobble is turned so the fluffiest side is on the outside.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Note:<\/strong> The bobble is so tiny that there&#8217;s no need to stuff it.<\/em><br \/>\nFasten off, leaving a long yarn end to attach bobble to hat, and stitch the remaining hole closed.<\/p>\n<h2>Finishing<\/h2>\n<p>Flip up the Trim so it covers the last red row of the hat (below, left).<\/p>\n<p>Fold the top of the hat down to one side (below right, and see the other photos for reference, or decide for yourself how much to fold it by), and use a yarn needle and a length of red yarn to secure the underside of the folded part to the hat below, to keep the fold in place.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/tut_images\/santa_hat2.jpg\" alt=\"amigurumi santa hat crochet pattern by planetjune\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using a yarn needle and the long yarn end from the bobble, stitch the bobble to the tip of the hat. Weave in all remaining yarn ends.<\/p>\n<p>Fluff out any clumps of lashes that are trapped by the stitches by raking over the eyelash stitches a few times with the yarn needle. <\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Optional:<\/strong> Use a pair of small, sharp scissors to trim all the lashes so they don&#8217;t look too long and straggly. I trimmed the lashes in my sample hat to about half their original length, but depending on the brand of yarn you use and the size of hat you make, you may prefer longer or shorter lashes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/santahat2.jpg\" alt=\"amigurumi santa hat crochet pattern by planetjune\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy this pattern.
