baby elephant

crocheted baby elephant by planetjune

I think I’m in love! He just flowed straight out of the yarn like this – I barely even had time to think about designing an elephant before he was there.

He’s crocheted from one of the new ‘heather’ shades of Bernat Satin
– have you seen them? I’m really excited about these new shades! They would make lovely colours for clothing too, and Satin is so soft I’d probably be happy with it against my skin, unlike Vanna’s Choice, which has some gorgeous colours, but isn’t quite as soft as I’d like.

Now back to the elephant: I’ve made him very small for a specific purpose – he’s going to be getting a big brother for the pattern version 🙂

UPDATE: Looking for the pattern? You can find the AfricAmi Elephant crochet pattern in my shop.

This baby elephant is so cute! It’s nice when the yarn and hook just agree to be friends and work the pattern out amongst themselves. 🙂
I can’t wait to see the bigger one!

You mentioned a “pattern” for a bigger elephant…when is THAT coming?! And will you have a pattern for the little guy too? I will be first in line to buy the pattern!

I Love your work, I found your blog yesterday while I was searching Google images for Christmas craft ideas and I was hooked!

I can knit, bake, sew, paint, stuff like that but my one bug bear is that I cant crochet anything more than a blanket! I have some wonderful patterns for australian wildlife and cant do them 🙁 I’m envious that you can turn out little animals at will.

I’ll be checking back regularly to see what new things you’ve made. Keep up the good work!
    Hugs sam x
