Latest news and updates from June

aloha!

Sorry for the blog silence; Dave and I have just got back from our vacation in Hawaii! It was long overdue, and it was wonderful. It was a bit of a shock when we got back home though; going from this:

Hawaii

to this:

looks like winter

Winter really hit while we were away. And our snowblower is refusing to start up… 🙁

Nothing much craft-related to report; I crocheted half a sock on the flights to Hawaii, but was too exhausted on the way back to finish it. We didn’t really do much shopping there either, but I did manage to pick up some locally-crafted jewellery from a Farmers’ Market, some fabric and a book on how to make crocheted leis.

Hawaii
Those polymer clay flowers are just begging me to try to replicate them!

Really, we went to see the local nature and wildlife, and we saw plenty of that – stunning scenery, beautiful exotic plants and all sorts of interesting birds and animals. I won’t go into long-winded details here, but my holiday journal and photos of all the amazing things we saw will all be online if you’d like to live it vicariously through me. I’m still working on the write-ups for the last couple of days – check back there soon if you want to see the rest of the trip…

Now I’m refreshed and inspired and now I can’t wait to get back into making stuff, once I’ve finished sorting through the rest of the holiday pics. We had a wonderful time, but it’s good to be back home. Aloha!

Jan, Deb, Robyn: thanks! I’m glad you liked my pics. Puglette: yes we did eat rambutans! They were delicious, but I think I still prefer lychees.

Yes, Hawaii is an amazing place – if you have the opportunity to go, take it! Even when it rained, it was warm rain.

Oh! one more thing, did you get to eat any rambutans? They are the oddest looking fruit, but so delicious! If you didn’t, please google them to see the beautiful fruit.

Hi June! I am so glad you had a great trip to Hawaii! We went to Hawaii five years ago and visited the same islands you did. We stayed in a small cottage on Kauai and the owner had a goat that would wander around and visit. Your journal brought back so many wonderful memories! I loved Hanalei, it is such a cute little town…when we drove over the bridge to Hanalei we saw a power line down along the road, hubby pulled up next to it and ZAP! it let out a crackle and sparks…we drove away and Hanalei was in the dark.

We had so much fun in Kauai, we drove over 1,000 miles in our rental car, a jeep. That’s a lot of driving on a 52 mile island! We just couldn’t stop exploring, it’s such a beautiful place. The car was so dirty from off roading that the turn in guy had to call the manager for the ok to take it back…just dirt and sand. :o)
I could go on and on, but I will just end by thanking you for the memories and the lovely photos and for sharing your trip!
    hugs,

Isn’t Hawaii just the most beautiful place? The garden of Eden must have been something like Hawaii.

And the air is so clean. Hawaii is far enough out in the Pacific as to be away from 80% of the world’s pollution.

    It’s a great vacation, isn’t it.
