the moon punchneedle pattern

Just in time for the weekend, The Moon punchneedle pattern is now available from the PlanetJune shop.

The finished moon is 5″ in diameter, and the pattern includes 4 colourways for the Moon: Purple Moon, Sepia Moon, Blue Moon, and Harvest Moon (thanks Alice for suggesting that last one!).

I can’t describe how happy I am with all the interest I’m been getting since I released my eBook – this week has been an absolute whirlwind, and it’s wonderful to see that people are finally starting to pay attention to punchneedle! Thank you so much for all the positive comments and encouragement you’ve sent me!

And thanks to Craft for their lovely write-up, and Sister Diane at CraftyPod for her wonderful review of my book!

Please let me know if you have any punchneedle pattern requests or any questions I can help you with 🙂

Hi June – a question for you. I suffered a stroke three years ago and I’m wondering if I can do punch needle patterns with just one hand if I had someone put the fabric, with the pattern, on the hoop for me? Thank you for your time…

Hi Julie. I’m afraid I have no specific knowledge on this, but here are the potential pitfalls I can see:

      • I think you’d have to have the hoop held rigid somehow, for two reasons: 1) you have to pull the needle up out of the fabric in a very controlled manner, so it stops as soon as it clears the surface, otherwise your stitch will pull out of the fabric, and 2) the hoop can’t be sitting flat on a surface, or you’d stab your table/leg with the needle every time you punch!
      • You have to rotate the hoop as you punch so you’re always making your stitches right-to-left (or vice versa if you’re left handed).

So my guess would be you’d need some sort of frame to hold the hoop for you in such a way that would also let you rotate the hoop when you need to change direction. I have no idea if such a frame exists, or how easy it would be to use. I’m sorry I can’t give you a more definitive answer!

June, what kind of cloth is good for punchneedle work and where can I buy it? I have looked for the punch needle and didn’t see it at Michaels.

You’re reading my mind, Kari – I definitely plan to make a punchneedle design of Maui!

C’mon June, don’t you just have to do a couple different cat patterns??? At least one for Maui, I’d assume, and I’d LOVE to see a solid (Spazz is a Russian Blue, which is actually quite grey, hehe!)
