I was looking for crochet patterns and other crocheting help. I am so pleased to have come across Planet June. I have recently started a love for amigurumi projects.
I am 75 and self taught crocheter. If you leave and come back to a craft, you will find terms and ways to do things change. I took some time to visit Planet June. I had several issues answered right away. I am going to enjoy this place. Am waiting for my first newsletter. Thanks for being there and sharing your time and talents. You are never too old to learn new things, LM

Hi June. I have only just started doing crochet but have already become hooked (no pun intended) on making little animals. I love your patterns and the instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I ws wondering if you have any patterns of a border terrier, and of a greyhound? I would be happy to pay for them. Thank you. Regards, Claire

    • June said

Claire, I currently have 24 AmiDogs patterns, including a Greyhound, and 4 terriers (Airedale, Boston, Jack Russell and Scottish) but no Border, I’m afraid. You can find all my AmiDogs patterns at www.planetjune.com/dogs – you can get a discount by buying a Custom Set if there are three breeds you’d like!

      • Claire Best said

Hi June. Thanks for your reply. I will have a look at yourdog patterns later and possibly buy the greyhound one – a good friend has had 2 rescue greyhounds, both of which are no longer around, and she misses them so much. She isn’t well enough to take on another so I thought I would try crocheting her one. I wanted the border terrer for another friend’s Christmas present as she has gotthe most gorgeous puppy! Thanks for your help.

I am a pensioner and I only crochet for charity. One group I do most for is an angel baby group. We make clothing and keepsakes for mums who don’t get to take their babies home – burial clothing, etc. I am sooo grateful to people like you who make patterns available because it costs lots to keep up the work when buying the materials. I am presently recouperating from a broken femur and whilst in the hospital I got roped into making scarves for the hospital raffle! Thank you again

Hi and thanks for all the tutorials. I am starting to crochet now (better late than never) and I appreciate all the beginners’ videos, especially since some of them contemplate left-handed versions. Is there a good book for left handed crochet that you recommend? It seems silly, but it is really different if you use the other hand!

    • June said

It’s not silly at all! I’m a left-hander too, and that’s why I make sure to offer all my tutorials in both right- and left-handed versions. Unfortunately, with only ~10% of us being lefties, I don’t think there are any crochet books specifically for lefties (books are expensive to produce, and publishers don’t see enough of a market to justify the cost – it was a hard sell for me to even get 2 pages of instructions devoted to lefties included in my latest book).

I recommend that you buy my book Idiot’s Guides: Crochet (as it clearly covers everything you’ll need, from beginner and onwards!), view the photos in a mirror to see them as left-handed, and see p14-15 for my tips on crochet for left-handers. And then, to supplement that, keep looking at my online tutorials to get a real left-handed perspective. It’s a compromise, but it’s the best I can recommend 🙂

    • Alanis said

I know how you guys feel and it’s really annoying because most books or tutorials don’t even mention left handedism so I found learning crochet hard but this site SERIOUSLY helps

  15. Erica said

Hi June, stumbled across your site just early this morning. Was wondering if you could give us a small tutorial or pics on how to do each stitch. I’ve been teaching myself since my mom helped me with a blanket and now I’m making cellphone covers and handbags!!! And that was by mistake! Thanks!

    • June said

Erica, take a look at my tutorials page (www.planetjune.com/help) – Crochet Basics will help you with getting started on the basic stitches for amigurumi, and the other techniques (Magic Ring, Invisible Decrease) etc I use are all linked from that page too. If you’d like a comprehensive reference with clear, close-up, step-by-step photos showing how to make all the crochet stitches (and lots of patterns for practicing them!), I can recommend my book, Idiot’s Guides: Crochet 🙂

On the computer at my local library ,at the website that shows your work, there is a picture of two hands holding pieces of crocheted mini fruit. Do you have any idea where I might get the pattern for this fruit? I would be very grateful if you did and could forward this information to me.

    • June said

Diane, I’m not sure which ‘website that shows my work’ you’re referring to, but all the fruit patterns I have are pictured above (Amigurumi Apples, Pears and Citrus Collection); if you don’t see the one you’re looking for, it must be a pattern from a different designer.

    Hi,

Those itty bitty fuzzballs would be useful attached to drinks at a party or family gathering to distinguish them. A person only has to remember which critter is on their beverage. They would be an alternative to “drink tags”. They would also be adorable attached to slippers, or as a zipper pull, or attached to a gift tag. Adorable.

In our huge mostly English/Scottt decent, I tell people, we knew how to hold a crochet hook before we could feed ourselves. ? Crochet and drink hot tea, my Granny’s favorite past time. She crocheted lace, purses, novelty items all with size 11 needle and smallest bedspread yarn. While reading either the Bible or Perry Mason with TV on. Miss her sooo much and that makes me appreciate even more sites like yours that honors and carries in these wonderful art and creations. God Bless You

Dalia, check out allfreecrochet.com -they have every kind of crocheting there and lots and lots of beginner tutorials and many that explain how to do all the stitches. They also have free ebooks that all include a page at the end showing each kind of the common stitches. Hey June, I was wondering how much yarn do you need for these cafts? Do you have any yarn I can buy here, at your website? I hope you do. I am almost 11 and need ideas!!! 🙂

    • June said

Alexis, apart from the scarves, all my patterns take much less than a skein of yarn (in each colour). Each scarf gives the approximate quantity needed in the pattern. I don’t sell yarn – I suggest you visit your local craft or yarn store and pick out some that you like!
